LEON DIXON, JR.

Leon Dixon, Jr. was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, and is a graduate of Lincoln High School. He holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s of Science degree in mathematics from Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas.

Leon is a founding member of the Kansas City chapters on the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and the National Black United Front. He is a cofounder and chairman of the board of directors of the W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center. This Center has operated with a volunteer staff since 1973, and offers mentoring and tutoring services to area young people in enrichment and remediation.

Leon is retired from the Allied Signal FM&T Corporation (formally the Bendix and now Honeywell Corporation) where he was a mathematician and computational scientist for thirty-two years. He is the author of the book Future In Our Hands, which is a discourse on the DuBois Learning Center, and is married to Betty Jean Dixon.
