EMERITUS Leon Dixon – Founder, Chairman, Advanced Math Instructor (45) William B. Grace - Founder, Executive Director (40) BOARD OF DIRECTORS Terri E. Barnes, President, Administration (18) Terri has more than 25+ years of management experience in the financial services industry. She has a passion for community service, particularly relating to the challenges of African American girls and young women. Mrs. Barnes is the co-founder of Trace's Place - A Community Resource for Girls and Young Women and has served as the President of the W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center since 2008. In 2016, she was recognized as "A Rising Star" by the Independent. Terri has a BA in Business Management from Park University and has held 6, 63, 26 FINRA securities licenses. Vern Glover – Vice President, Math Instructor (45) Mr. Glover is a charter member of the W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center and has more than 20 years of experience as an Information Technology executive. Mr. Glover retired from the USDA and held several executive level positions during his tenure including Director of Technology, Director of Information Systems and Deputy Chief Information Officer. Mr. Glover has a BS, majoring in Mathematics and minoring in physics from the University of Pine Bluff, Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Dr. Carla Mebane – Secretary, Reading Instructor (4) Dr. Mebane joined the Board of Directors in January 2013. Dr. Mebane is the Dual Credit Director of High School Partnerships at University of Missouri, Kansas City. Dr. Mebane received her Ed.D. in Leadership and Policy Analysis from University of Missouri, Columbia, a M.A. Ed. in school Leadership from Baker University, a M.S. Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction from Lesley University and a B.S. Ed. in Elementary Education from William Jewell College. Phil Vann – Treasurer (16) Phillip Vann has more than 25 years of experience as an Information Technology Professional in both technical and management positions. Phil has been a member of the Board of Directors and the Treasurer of the organization for the past six years. He was a Co-Founder of the Black Family Technology Association and recipient of the 2011 Alumni Group’s Service Leadership Award for the promotion of S.T.E.M. to minority students Donald Ealy Mr. Ealy joined the board in January 2018 and brings significant experience in a variety of sectors including; accounting, financial services, nonprofit organizations and HR recruiting and compliance areas. He has served on board committees and as a community volunteer with various organizations in the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area. Mr. Ealy holds a BS in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resource Management from DeVry University and a MS in Human Resource Management from Keller Graduate School. Marion Halim Ms. Halim joined the board in January 2018 and vividly recalls attending the W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center in her high school years. With more than 40 years of experience in the private and public sector, Ms. Halim has a passion for service to the community and individuals. She is a licensed Social Worker and has served on many community and corporate boards and served as a consultant, program reviewer and owned a private practice. Ms. Halim has a BS and MS in Social Work and a Master’s degree in Public Health Administration. Harrison May – Instructor and Director of Technology (25) Michael Moore – Reading Instructor (12) Mr. Moore joined the Board of Directors in January 2013. Prior to his membership on the Board, he served and continues to serve as a volunteer high school reading instructor. Michael is a Financial Advisor with New York Life Insurance Company and serves on several local nonprofit boards in the community. Bonita Powell Bonita D. Powell is the President of The Brass Pinnacle Group, Inc., a minority, woman-owned strategic business consulting firm providing services and staff augmentation in the areas of strategy, operations, project management, IT and procurement. She is on staff with Lincoln University extension and also serves as the Executive Director for Total Man CDC. Prior to The Brass Pinnacle Group, Ms. Powell worked for A.T. Kearney Management Consulting in New York and Atlanta. She has over 20 years of consulting experience with Fortune 500 corporations, government agencies and non-profit organizations. Ms. Powell has a BS degree from Jackson State University and a MBA from Harvard Business School. Calvin Robertson Carlos Walker Mr. Walker joined the board in October 2017 and has a BS from DeVry University majoring in accounting and an MS in Accounting and Finance from Keller Graduate School. Mr. Walker holds both the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designations and serves on our Finance Committee.
