MATHEMATICS
Classes held Saturday 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Math-e-mat-ics - noun - the abstract science of number, quantity and space. Our math program helps students develop solid math skills which allows them access to higher-level careers. For just about every job available, math is utilized. Often, we believe that math is only needed for careers in accounting, architecture, science, and engineering, but we also know how important having strong mathematical ability is to cashiers, carpenters and plumbers. With good math skills, your child will be better equipped to solve real-world problems that come along with becoming an adult. At the W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center, our approach to math is simple. We focus on each individual component of math and work with students on mastery, before moving them to the next component of math. The Learning Center offers assistance in the following areas: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, General Math, Fractions, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry, Calculus and Calculus II. Several educators have noted that the best indicator of a high school student’s success in college is how well they do in geometry. This consideration seems to even outweigh those of test scores and grades. The thought is that geometry, in most schools, is the only course involving abstract logic. |
